There is an entry for Horning [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TG3516/horning/] [accessed 29 April 2014], but there is no mention of church or cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church of Horning was dedicated (as I take it) to St. Bennet; the rectory was appropriated to that abbey, and the vicarage was valued then at two marks, the rectory at 12 marks, in the reign of Edward I. there belonged to the vicar a manse, with an acre of land, the present valor is 4l. 13s. 4d. the presentation was in the abbot, and so came to the Bishops of Norwich. [...] John, occurs vicar in 1299." Listed in Cox-Harvey (1907) as a stone baptismal font of the Early English period. The present font is noted in Pevsner & Wilson (1997): "Octagonal, early C14, with simple tracery." The upper rim of the basin is crenellated but much damaged; the panels of the basin have simple tracery but the front side (east) has a large floral motif instead; the underbowl and base have piping at the angles all the way down to the lower base; on a two-step octagonal plinth. [cf. Index entry for Horning No.1 for the abbey church here].
