Font Notes:
The Domesday entry for "Foxle" mentions neither church nor cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church of Foxley is a rectory, dedicated to St. Thomas. [...] The church is covered with lead, the chancel thatched. In the tower, which is four square, hang 3 bells. [...] 1305, John de Hunstede instituted rector, presented by Sir Hugh de Vere." The font here is noted in Pevsner & Wilson (1997): "Font. C14. Octagonal, simple, with quatrefoils". Knott (2006) notes and illustrates the font and its 17th-century cover. The octagonal basin is decorated as indicated in Pevsner & Wilson above, and has a moulded underbowl; it is raised on a plain octagonal shaft with a moulded splaying lower base; on an octagonal plinth with kneeling stone. Given that our first record of this church is the first recorded rector in 1305 [cf. supra], it is quite possible that this is the font of the original church here. The cover is octagonal and stylised, fading to a sharp end and a dove finial.
