The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed 15 February 2021] notes: "iglesia, dedicada a Santa María Egipciaca, renacentista [...] La pila es románica, tipo piscina, con cuatro grandes gallones y cenefa vegetal y base moldurada, buena". Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) as a baptismal font of the Romanesque period; the tub-shaped limestone font has a quatrefoil shape which must surely put it in the later period, at least 13th-century. The Enciclopedia… (ibid.) notes that the broad moulding at the upper rim has the incised lines for a decorative vine but it was not completed by the carver. The basin is raised on a two-step base. No cover present but there is a metal staple from an old cover anchoring at the rim. [cf. BSI entry for Lecinana de Tobalina No.2 for an interesting medieval(?) holy-water stoup also in this church]
