The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed November 2022] notes: "su iglesia, dedicada a Santa María. Es renacentista [...] La pila es de vaso alto con gallones y borde moldurado y base cuadrada". Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ) as a font in the traditional design of the Romanesque fonts of the area but made already in the Gothic period, perhaps originally from the nearby rural chapel [ermita] of San Roman, the movement of the font recorded in 1614; the roughly hemispherical basin has ribbed pattern all around with the characteristic round arch-heads at the top; at the end of the underbowl is a roll moulding; the pedestal base is modern, but the Enciclopedia… (ibid.) informs that the original base, much damaged, is kept in the sacristy. [NB: the purported original base is actually a composite of two parts: the upper block is roughly cylindrical and extremely damaged and eroded, while the lower part, moulded round top and plain square bottom, appears well preserved].
