Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en Castilla y León (2002- ); baptismal font consisting of a hemispherical basin of Romanesque appearance raised on a Renaissance base; the basin has a broad ribbed pattern on the outside and a thick roll moulding at the underbowl; there is thin incised zigzag line in the interior of the basin, near the upper rim; the latter retains one of the metal staples of the old cover. The entry for this village in Emiliano Nebreda Perdiguero [www.archiburgos.es/wp-content/uploads/amo-a-mi-pueblo.pdf] [accessed October 2022] notes that there were three parishes here until 1868: "San Miguel, San Juan y Santa María", of which the latter remains with the advocation of "la Asunción de Nuestra Señora"; this same source refers to the disused "iglesia de San Juan, ya en desuso", and to that of "las ruinas de la iglesia de San Miguel"; of the font in the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción it notes a Renaissance baptismal font: "La pila es renacentista con gallones, moldura y pie cilíndrico con estriados y moldura inferior".
