view of stoup
Scene Description: an object described in the Enciclopedia as an object that appears to be used as a holy-water stoup: "adosada al muro septentrional, se encuentra una pieza que ha sido mal interpretada como pila bautismal.

The baptismal font or stoup consists of a smallish bucket-shaped basin decorated with vertical piping [widely separated ribs] all around, a Latin cross on the front side; plain underbowl chamfer; circular stem with three mouldings, the top is flat, the other two rounded; on a circular plinth. [NB: the upper rim of the font is rough and it is possible it may have been re-cut]. The wooden cover is hinged at the back (wall side) and locks at the front into a staple that is located above the left arm of the cross. The entry for this church in the Enciclopedia del románico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/asturias_GRANDAS_DE_SALIME.pdf] [accessed 20 October 2022] makes reference to an object that appears to be used as a holy-water stoup: "adosada al muro septentrional, se encuentra una pieza que ha sido mal interpretada como pila bautismal.
