Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Sáenz Rodríguez (2004) and in the Enciclopedia del románico en La Rioja (2008): a baptismal probably of the 13th century, not connected stylistically to any of the Rioja workshops; it consists of a plain, roughly hemispherical basin raised on a plain cylindrical pedestal base and a lower base formed by an upper round volume with leaves at 90-degree angles; there may be a square lower volume but it is currently embedded in the flooring. Sáenz Rodríguez (ibid.) notes that the font, which is now located in a chapel on the north side of the nave, was located earlier at the west end of the nave, on the south side; this author further remarks that the font appears to have been re-tooled.
