Quintanar de Rioja

Described in Sáenz Rodríguez (2004) and in the Enciclopedia del románico en La Rioja (2008) as a baptismal font perhaps of the 12th century or somewhat later, of the general design of fonts from the Oja-Tirón workshop, except that in this case the basin sides are decorated with foiliage rather than a vine [perhaps because this might be a later font in that general style?]; the underbowl has broad ribs; the round stem has mouldings at either end; the lower base is square; the basin has one metal staple at the upper rim. The carving is very damaged and has been re-tooled, so it is difficult to tell how much of it is original. Sáenz Rodríguez (2004) notes that the font has been heavily restored [="rehecha"] and that it may be of a later date than it appears.
