Font Notes:
Described and illustrated in Sáenz Rodríguez (2004) and in the Enciclopedia del románico en La Rioja (2008) as a composite font made up of a 13th- or 14th-century moulded basin, and a circular base of the 12th century; the base has a series of atlante-like human figures holding raised hands all around. The wooden cover is round and flat; appears modern. Sáenz Rodríguez (ibid.) remarks that, although the basin lacks the characteristic human figures of the fonts at Sonsierra and Briones, it is a clear product of the same workshop; this same author notes that the font, the carving of which is hardly discernible, was painted (grey on the base, black on the basin) by the 1944 parish priest, Jesús Gato Apellániz. The entry for this church in Rioja Románica [https://www.riojaromanica.com/poblacion/gimileo] [accessed 15 November 2020]: "Aunque la actual iglesia está edificada en el siglo XVI encontramos una pila bautismal medieval en el cuerpo bajo de la torre." This font is noted and illustrated in Rioja Románica [https://www.riojaromanica.com/categorias/pilas-bautismales#] [accessed 15 November 2020]: "Esta pila bautismal cuenta con dos piezas talladas de forma independiente. El pie es románico del siglo XII. Es un fuste reaprovechado con seis figuras humanas talladas. Son personajes a modo de atlantes con el torso desnudo y los brazos en alto dándose la mano entre ellos. La tina es posterior y podemos fecharla a caballo de los siglos XIII y XIV. Tiene forma troncocónica, la parte inferior esta decorada con arcos trilobulados apuntados y con flores de cuatro pétalos en las enjutas. La parte superior tiene tallos en zigzag con flores."
