Described and illustrated in the Enciclopedia del románico en La Rioja (2008) as a baptismal font of a plain type made in the area between the 12th and the 16th century with little change in design: a plain roughly hemispherical basin raised on a plain pedestal base; in this case the pedestal base is octagonal, and may have been a later addition; the font, though located just outside the entrance to the church, has actually been re-cycled into a water fountain. The Enciclopedia… (ibid.) suggest the font may have been originally form the nearby Ermita de San Roman de Ajugarte, located just south of Casalarreina.
