There is an entry for [Middle]zoy and Weston[zoy]land [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/XX0000/middlezoy-and-westonzoyland/] [accessed 1 May 2018], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it.
Pevsner (1958) writes: "Font. Of the octagonal Perp[endicular] standard type." The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Somerset, vol. 8, 2004) notes: "Middlezoy chapel was dedicated to St. Lawrence in the early 13th century [...] and to St. Mary in the 1540s [...] By 1754 [...] the present dedication to Holy Cross had been adopted", and describes the font as "late medieval". The font consists of an octagonal basin the sides of which are decorated with deeply-carved pointed quatrefoil panels with floral motif inscribed; the underbowl chamfer is fluted; raised on a slender octagonal pedestal with panelled sides. The wooden font cover is flat, decorated with metal, and has a large acorn finial.
