There are three entries for this [Long] Sutton [variand spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/ST4625/long-sutton/] [accessed 7 February 2018], none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Pevsner (1958) mentions two fonts: "One in the churchyard, defaced. It resembles that at Ruishton, octagonal with bold buttress-like pieces in the diagonals and sculpture on the four uncovered faces. The other is in the church, Perp[endicular], octagonal, with a flat bowl. Two quatrefoils on each side." [NB: entry footnoted: "This is suggested to have been the base of the village cross."] Baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin decorated with mouldings and quatrefoils, decorated underbowl chamfer; raised on an octagonal stem with trefoil arches or windows, moulded lower base. The wooden cover has a crown-like base on which an octagonal pyramid; painted and gilded; 17th century?
