Noted in Kelly's Directory of 1883: "the font is [of] good Perpendicular character". Noted in Pevsner (1958) as "Perp[endicular] standard". The National Monuments Record, English Heritage [http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/details/default.aspx?id=270621] [accessed 9 May 2009] notes: "Perpendicular font, wooden canopy and pully dated 1900" [NB: the date pertains only to the font cover and mechanism; the font cover has an inscription identifying the donors, Arthur and Violet Street, in memory of their child]. The font itself consists of an octagonal basin with vertical sides deeply carved with quatrefoild panels that contain, alternately, charged shields and floral motifs; the underbowl chamfer has similar quatrefoils but they all inscribe floral motifs; the stem has pairs of trefoil arches or windows, arranged one-up-one-down on each side; all the contours and angles from the basin to the lower base are framed in thick piping; the splaring lower base is octagonal.
