No entry for Kingsdon found in the Domesday survey. The National Gazetteer of 1868 reports a basin for consecrated water near the door of this churvch, but it may be referring to a stoup, rather than the font itself. The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Somerset, vol. 3, 1974) notes: "The church is first mentioned in 1242 [...] The nave is of 12th-century origin and there is a niche of that date over the south door [...] The bowl of the font is of the 12th century". The National Monuments Record, English Heritage [Listing NGR: ST5157026203] reports a "font probably C13, a tulip bowl on circular shaft, lead lined"; the basin has a through crack all around the side of the basin. The wooden cover is round and flat, with metal decoration and ring handle. Not mentioned in Pevsner (1958).
