There is an entry for this Watford in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP6068/watford/] [accessed 9 July 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The National Archives web site [http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/rd/7c38e95a-8875-45d8-b4f1-f460ed924b50] [accessed 9 July 2015] lists a 1833 drawing by J. Buckler [Ref.: D/Z119/3/258I ] with the title: "Font in Watford Church". There are two fonts in the church now [April 2011]. The old font, an octagonal (?) basin much damaged and eroded rests on a modern stone on the ground next to the modern font, both located inside the south doorway, just west of it; the upper rim of the old basin shows enough of its original shape to suggest that there was decoration of sorts at least around the top. The modern font consists of an octagonal basin with chamfered underbowl, on a polygonal pedestal base, and an octagonal lower base; octagonal plinth with kneeling extension. The wooden cover is pyramidal octagonal with a ball finial.
