The Victoria County History (Northampton, vol. 4, 1937) notes: "The south doorway is [...] 12th-century, but was probably re-erected in its present position on the widening of the aisle. [...] The font and pulpit are modern, but the bowl and stem of a plain octagonal font are in the churchyard." The village web site [www.northantsvillages.org.uk/sywell/History.htm] [accessed 5 May 2009] informs the old font was later moved into the church: "It is thought that the font nearest the south door, which was rescued from the churchyard is of medieval design". There is no mention of either font in Pevsner & Cherry (1973)
