No entry found for West Pennard in the Domesday survey. Phelps (1836) writes: "The font is large, and was originally supported by slender columns round its pedestal". The present font, however, is a 19th-century rendition of a Pependicular design, so it is probably a Victorian replacement of the original font; it probably dates to the 19th-century restoration of the 15th-century church. [NB: the font it replaced, if Phelps [cf. supra] is correct, does not appear to have been a the standard Perpendicular design of an octagonal basin on an octagonal pedestal]. The entry for this parish in the Victria County History (Somerset, vol. 9, 2006) notes: "West Pennard was a chapelry of St. John's, Glastonbury, and was first mentioned c. 1200 when the revenues of both were appropriated to the abbey sacristy [...] chapel, later church, of St. Nicholas, so dedicated by 1210"; the VCH entry mentions no font in it.
