Font Notes:
Gómez Urdáñez (2005) notes that the registry of baptisms of this church begins in 1592, and that an episcopal visit to this church by bishop Aguiriano in 1794 noted the font and the lack of a proper shell or cup to pour the baptismal water over the baptizand; the same bishop recommends a full renovation of the church. This same source illustrates a drawing of the church interior plan made in 1796 for the renovation work; in it appears a chapel at the west end of the nave, north side, that contains a baptismal font; the drawing curiously includes a second room; this one exempt, on the outer side of the west wall of the church, with another baptismal font, though the latter is drawn in dotted lines, whereas the former font appears in well-defined traces; it is not clear from the context whether two fonts are involved, or it is simply a means of showing two possible locations of the baptistry in the plan. [NB: we have no information on either of these fonts, but, presumably, one would have been the font of the medieval church]
