Noted and described in Lübke (1853) and (1870): " Am Schlusse des Mittelalters steht ein anderes Taufbecken, dab die Reinoldikirche zu Dortmund bewahrt. Das Gefäss steigt in Form eines Pokales von ebenso reicher als feiner Profilirung und graziösen Umrissen empor. Sechs gothische Strebepfeiler umgeben es, die auf eben so rielen Löwen ruhen. Oben, wo die Strebepfeiler den Rand des Gelasses berühren, werden sie durch einen Löwenrachen gehalten. Drei reliefirte Inschriften zieren das Ganze: die eine am obern Rande, die andre auf der Oberseite desselben, die dritte am Fusse. Sie sind sämmtlich in zierlich gearbeiteter Minuskelschrift mit vielen Abkürzungen geschrieben. Die am oberen Rande nimmt wie jene in Osnabrück Bezug auf die kirchliche Lehre über das Sakrament der Taufe: '...Baptismi fructus est plena remissio culpe, gratia confertur et pena remittitur omnis, qui crediderit et baptisatus fuerit, salvus erit is et immunis.' Auf der Oberfläche des Randes eine Ermahnung an die Pathen, die Kinder den Glauben, 'in rechter Minne' und das Vater Unser und die zehn Gebote zu lehren: 'O geestilike vader unde moder, nempt dat to sinne, Juwwen paden to leren den gelowen in richter minne Unde dat pater noster, dei X gebode gods to gader, Jesus sal sin Ju loen und sin hemelsche vader.' Die Umschrift unten am Fusse gibt als Jahr der Entstehung 1469 und als Meister des Werks einen Dortmunder Bürger und Glockengiesser Johann Winnenbrock an: 'In dem Jar uns heren M. CCCC. LXIX doe goet Johan Winnenbrock Kloekengeiter borger tho Dorpmunde disse dope.' Das Material ist ein Compositionsmetall. Interessant ist nun, dass ein Dortmunder Giesser desselben Familiennamens als Verfertiger eines anderen Taufbeckens genannt wird, welches sich in der Lambertikirche zu Koesfeld findet. Es ist von ähnlicher Composition, ebenfalls auf sechs Löwen ruhend, jedoch ohne die Strebepfeiler und etwas kleiner und minder reich ausgebildet. Die obere, lateinische Inschrift ist der an dem Dortmunder Taufbecken erwähnten durchaus gleich. Die zweite wiederholt die gleiche des Dortmunder Werkes mit geringen Veränderungen: '0 gestlike alders, nemet dat teal to sinne, / uwen paden to leren in gotliker minne / den gelowen un pater noster al gader / Goit salt Ion sin unn sin hemels vader.'Hier sind die zehn Gebote nicht erwähnt, überhaupt ist das Ganze knapper gefasst, wahrscheinlich wegen der geringeren Flächenausdehnung, die der geringere Durchmesser des Gelasses mit sich brachte. Die dritte Umschrift heisst" 'In dem jaer unses heren XVc unde IIIIo goit Reinolt Widenbrock unde Claes Potgeiter borgor in Dorpmunde dusse dope.' Die Verschiedenheit der Orthographie in den Namen Winnenbrock und Widenbrock kann uns nicht hindern, denselben Familiennamen zu vermuthen. Da dies zweite Gefäss 1504, also Э5 Jahre nach jenem gegossen worden, so ist wahrscheinlich der hier genannte Reinold ein Sohn jenes Johann Winnenbrock. Als dritter Dortmunder Giesser tritt also noch Clas Potgeiter hinzu.-- Ein andres Taufbecken verwandter Anlage, aber von noch eleganterer Profilirung, namentlich von äusserst fein und kühn geschweiftem Fuss und Bauch bewahrt der Dom zu Münster. Die Ecken des Fusses laufen in acht ruhende Löwenfiguren aus. Die Flächen sind in architektonischer Weise gegliedert, wie die gothische Kunst es liebte, und durch Bildwerk belebt.--" The font above, which lost the suporting lions in WWII, was cast in 1469 by bell-maker Johann Winnenbrock of Dortmund: "Das heute im Chor stehende bronzene Taufbecken war zur Zeit seiner Herstellung 1469 wahrscheinlich im Westen der Kirche aufgestellt worden. Die seitlich angebrachten, auf Löwen ruhenden sechs Streben sind im Zweiten Weltkrieg verloren gegangen. Drei in mittelniederrheinischer Sprache formulierte Inschriften führen um das Becken herum: Die beiden auf dem oberen Rand und in der Mitte des Kelches sind Taufsprüche, die Inschrift am Fuß des Beckens (Detail unten) bekundet, dass der Dortmunder Bürger und Glockengießer Johann Winnenbrock dieses Becken 1469 goss. Die Familie Winnenbrock war mit ihren Werken im westfälischen Raum bekannt. In Dortmund schuf Johann Winnenbrock auch mindestens eine der heute nicht mehr existierenden Glocken der Reinoldikirche."
