There are five entries for this Rushton [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SP8482/rushton/] [accessed 30 July 2019] none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Henry Thomas Ellacombe's 'The Church Bells of Somerset' (Exeter, 1875: 17-18) informs on alphabet letters appearing on bells all over England, and it further notes: "at Severn-Stoke, Worcestershire, the whole alphabet is inscribed on the flat top margin of an ancient font, and at Rushton, All Saints, Northants ." [NB: may the unclear syntax mean that the old font at Rushton also had letters on it?] Described in Bond (1908) as a baptismal font that has "the whole alphabet on the flat top margin of the bowl. It has been suggested that the letters were placed there for Sunday school purposes. But alphabets occur also on bells, and mediæval belfries were hardly used as Sunday schools". Also in Cox & Harvey (1907). The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SP8409382874] notes: "Parish church. Norman origin, largely rebuilt early C14, restored 1853 and 1869 [...] Mostly C19 fittings" [no font mentioned]. [NB: we have no information on the baptismal font of the original 12th-century building here]
