The Victoria County History (Northampton, vol. 3, 1930) notes: "No portion of the building is older than the 12th century, but part of a pre-Conquest grave-slab, or coffin-lid, with plait-work in two panels, [...] found below the south transept about 1904, is probably a relic of the burial ground attached to the first church on the site. [...] The font now in use dates only from 1909 and is of late gothic pattern, but there is an early 18th century block font with panelled sides under the tower." Pevsner & Cherry (1973) note two fonts: "One oblong, early C18, like the plinth of a monument, no separate bowl. -- The octagonal Perp[endicular] font dates from 1909." The Parish web site [www.oundledeanery.org.uk/parishes/oundlewithashton/history] [accessed 24 April 2009] informs: "The early eighteenth century font was moved from the base of the tower and brought back into use in the new baptistery." [NB: we have no information on the earlier font of this church].
