Pretty (1849) reports that only the tower remains of the Early English original church, and notes a font inside: "The font is modern, of an octagonal shape, and highly creditable to the industry and talents of an amateur,-- Grimes, Esq. On one side is the subject of Christ's address, 'Suffer little children, and forbid them not.'" The same font is described in Pevsner & Cherry (1973): "Font of terracotta, Perp[endicular]. Dated 1823. According to Wetton's Guide, by Grimes, 'an amateur'. BB)" [NB: the Guide referred to in Pevsner & Cherry is Pretty's of 1849]. [NB: the fabric of the church goes back to the 13th century but we have no information on the earlier font(s) of this church]
