Noted in the Victoria County History (Northampton, vol. 4, 1937): "Substantially the building dates from c. 1220 to 1250 [...] The 13th-century font has a plain octagonal bowl on a short shaft and two steps." The font appears now somewhat different from the VCH desciption (if it was accurate); the basin is plain, but the underbowl, which may be a separate piece, is moulded; the stem is octagonal-to-square; the square lower base is a separate piece and has a moulding at the upper end; the low quadrangular plinth is modern. The wooden cover is an octagonal pyramid with chrocketed arrises and a cross finial; painted red and green on alternate panels; although an earlier design, it could be Victorian.
