There are three entries for this Welton [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SP5865/welton/] [accessed 12 November 2023], none of which mentions priest or church in it. The listing for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SP5810966026] notes: "Church. C15 with earlier tower [...] Corbel set into wall is late medieval and probably reset, whilst simply moulded stone font is of later date." The baptismal font consists of a barrel-shaped basin plain but for a round chamfer at the bottom, and two 'V' marks on the upper side; it may be an old basin that was re-tooled at a later date; the round pedestal base and small square plinth appear modern. The wooden font cover has an octagonal base -not meant for this round font- with eight open-work ribs with a vegetal-knob finial.
