Scene Description: all of it looking too sharp for a 15thC font -- was it re-tooled or is it a Victorian re-construction?

Noted in the Victoria county History (Northampton, vol. 3, 1930): "No part of the existing structure appears to be older than the 13th century, but the rear arch of the priest's doorway is a 12th century semi-circular arch re-used, and in all probability a 12th century church stood on the site consisting of an aisleless nave and chancel. [...] The 15th century font consists of an octagonal panelled bowl and plain pedestal". In Pevsner & Cherry (1973): "Octagnal, Perp[endicular], panelled." The Parish web site [www.oundledeanery.org.uk/node/333] [accessed 24 March 2009] notes: "The Font dates from the C15th [...] stands near the main (west) doors of the [...] building".
