Extract from a booklet of the history of Willand church [kindly supplied by Pete Towsend, of Willand, Devon: "The font, plain and octagonal, is of red volcanic tufa, (or tuff) a rather porous stone. The bowl, somewhat worn away underneath, does not quite fit the supporting shaft or pedestal, which has small spurs at the base, and is of a different type of stone, also worn away in places. The general impression of this old font is that the bowl and pedestal have been
separated at some time or other, and not re-assembled as symmetrically as possible." Not mentioned in Stabb (1908- ), Pevsner (1952) or Hoskins (1954) [NB: we have no information on this font; the present church is probably 14th-century there may have been an older church here belonging to Taunton Priory].
