Baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin with mouldings at the upper and lower rims; the sides are vertical, one of them decorated with a Maltese cross inscribed in a circle; moulded underbowl chamfer; octagonal stem decorated with quatrefoils (some cusped, others round); moulded lower base, also octagonal. The wooden cover isn octagonal pyramid with a ball finial. The whole is raised on a narrow rectangular plinth with kneeling stone. There is no mention of the font in Pevsner (1952) or in Hoskins (1954) [NB: the original church may have been of the early 14th century]. [NB: White's Devonshire Directory of 1850 and the Gazetteer of 1868 give the dedication as St. Peter's [transcriptions of both entries in http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/UptonPyne// [accessed 18 March 2009]], but Stabb, Pevsner, Hoskins et al. have St. Mary's]
