There is an entry for Sydenham [Damerel] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SX4076/sydenham-damerel/] [accessed 1 November 2017], but it mentions neither priest nor church in it. The entry for this parish in British Listed Buildings [Listing NGR: SX4093876005] reports: "The octagonal font is C15, the bowl supported on a truncated stem." There is no mention of the font in Stabb (1908- ), Pevsner (1952) or Hoskins (1954). The present font looks like it has been re-cut, and, perhaps, in the process, it got damaged; a large chunk of the basin has been repaired with dark cement, and a metal belt has been fitted all around the basin. Flat wooden font cover with metal locking mechanism and decoration.
