Oliver (1841) reports a church founded by the Premonstratensians ca. 1196 at Torre, and described as "richly furnished" in "Bishop Grandisson's letter, in vol. I of his Register, fo. 56". Oliver (ibid.) refers also to a classical poem entitled 'Ugbroke Park', by Revd. Joseph Reeve, which described the state of the abbey at the time: "Here stood the font--here on high columns rais'd" [NB: this is probably Revd. Joseph Reeve (1733-1820); for details see his entry in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography [http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/23299] [accessed 16 March 2009]]
