There is an entry for Aston [Botterell] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SO6384/aston-botterell/] [accessed 25 September 2018] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Newman & Pevsner (2006) write: "Font. Late Norman, circular with one band of nailhead. Flat C17 cover." Noted and illustrated in the CRSBI (2008): "Tub-shaped. Modern base. One row of nail head ornament followed by convex ring in top third of font. Pronounced chamfer below convex ring. The chamfer is uneven, resulting in a somewhat lop-sided appearance of the font. Lead-lined round bowl. Yellow sandstone." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SO6325484114] notes: "Font late C12". The font is now raised on a circular lower base, and a two-step plinth, both modern. The wooden cover is round and flat, with a knob handle [cf. supra]
