Font Notes:
Wilson's Gazetteer (1870-1872) notes "a Norman font" in this church. Not mentioned in Stabb (1908), Pevsner (1952) or Hoskins (1954). The present font is octagonal with a tapering basin decorated with floral motifs inscribed in quatrefoils; the underbowl also with floral motifs on the sides; the short octagonal stem with deeply-carved trefoiled (?) arches; on a plain octagonal lower base. The wooden cover is round, flat and plain. The whole thing appears Victorian but the entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SY1336998365], which dates the church to: "Possibly C14 origins", confirms a late-medieval date for the font: "C15 octagonal font with quatrefoils carved on the bowl". [NB: we have no information on the original font of this church]
