Pevsner (1952) writes: "Octagonal of the usual Perp[endicular] type; but the ornamentation looks as if it might be C17." The Parish web site [http://www.salcombechurch.co.uk/] [accessed 18 January 2009] informs: " The Parish Church of Holy Trinity, Salcombe was consecrated to the Glory of God in April 1844. Salcombe’s first place of worship had been a chapel licensed in 1401 by Bishop Stafford and dedicated to St John the Baptist. The Chapel was rebuilt in 1801 but within a few years was considered too small for Salcombe’s growing population [...] The ornate font and the pulpit were carved by Rev. William Pinwill" [NB: we have no information on a possible font in the original chapel].
