Font Notes:
White's Directory (1878) reports a Norman font in this church. In Pevsner (1952): "Norman font, square on four big scallops on each side (cf. Nether Exe)". The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SS9109104943] notes: "Parish church. C12 font ; tower possibly C13 (q.v. Bickleigh): circa early C16 north aisle ; restoration of circa 1840 [...] Unusual, probably C12 volcanic trap font with a square bowl, scallopped underneath on a round stem with decoration on the plinth. The stem and plinth are C19. The font cover, circa 1840, clearly not designed for the present font, has an ogival profile and is carved with blind tracery." The entry for this church is noted and illustrated in Britain Express [https://www.britainexpress.com/counties/devon/churches/cadbury-st-michael.htm] [accessed 4 July 2025] notes: "The Norman font was rescued from the ditch beside the churchyard and restored to the nave. It is made from volcanic trap and has a square bowl with a scalloped base set on a round stem."
