Font Notes:
There are ten entries for Norwich [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/TG2308/norwich/] [accessed 13 October 2020], one of which records "22.7 churches. 2.57 church lands" in it; a separate entry records a priest and a church in it. A large copper kettle formerly used in the Rowntree chocolate factory of Norwich, and offered to the Cathedral when the factory closed. It is now used as a baptismal font [NB: there is also a 15th-century font in the Cathedral -- it was originally from St. Mary in the Marsh [cf. Index entry for Norwich No. 1 for details of that font]. The Cathedral web site [www.cathedral.org.uk] [accessed 11 January 2009] informs: "Norwich Cathedral has two fonts. The one here is made of copper and stands in the Nave on important occasions. The font shown here was given to the Cathedral by a local factory. This copper font was formerly used in the process of chocolate making in the Norwich Rowntree factory." [NB: we have no information on the font of the original late-11th century church here].
