Noted in Chagford Conservation Area Appraisal Dartmoor National Park Authority (Draft March 2005: 7) [http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk/caachag02-2.pdf] [accessed 9 January 2009]: "the font discovered beneath the Church in 1865 (and reburied in the Rectory garden) is thought to have been 12th century Norman". A 1931 photograph of the interior [http://www.frithphotos.com/search/england/devon/chagford/photos/chagford_83910.htm] [accessed 9 January 2009] shows the same octagonal mounted font that is there now. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SX7014287510] notes: "Parish church. It appears to be a complete C15 rebuild of an earlier church [...] Granite Perpendicular style octagonal font carved by a local mason, John Aggett, and dedicated to the memory of Katherine Hayter-Hames who died less than a year old in 1856. The oak coved canopy is richly carved in Gothic style."
