**********NOT CLEAR WHETHER THIS IS THE SAME AS THE CHAPEL OF EASE LISTED IN PRESCOTT*********
There is antry for Stanley [Pontlarge] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SO9930/stanley-pontlarge/] [accessed 27 November 2018] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The church, the Norman chancel arch and the re-cut font are illustrated in Dent (1877) from a drawing by J. Rushton [NB: the drawing was probably done before the major restoration carried out in the 1860s and 1870s by Thomas Collins. Noted in Verey & Brooks (1999-2002): "Font. A Norman bowl, later cut into an octagonal shape, perhaps in the C14. It rests on three circular rolls of diminishing circumference." [NB: Winchcombe Parish, to which Stanley Pontlarge belongs, notes the church at Stanley Pontlarge as dedicated to St. Michael in its website [http://www.winchcombeparish.org.uk/] [accessed 18 April 2010], but reports that this is a "recently rededicated church"]. [NB: not clear whether the present base is part of the original re-cut font stone, or a later addition]. 'A Brief History of St Michael’s Church, Stanley Pontlarge' [www.winchcombeparish.org.uk/winchcombe-parish/our-churches/historical-notes/a-brief-history-of-st-michaels-church-stanley-pontlarge.php] [accessed 27 November 2018] notes: "The north and the simpler south doorways come from this period, as does the font, the round bowl of which was recut octagonally in the C13th." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SO9992430202] notes: "Chapel of Ease. C12, altered C15 and 1860-1, by Thomas Collins of Tewkesbury. [...] South wall: C19 plank door within a C12 opening with plain tympanum and moulded hood. [...] Distorted C12 chancel arch with plain inner arch supported on jamb shafts with scalloped-capitals, chevroned outer arch with moulded hood. Projecting stone corbel to the right of the chancel arch. [...] Possibly C12 limestone font with moulded circular base and an octagonal bowl, possibly recut, towards the west end of the nave."
