Font Notes:
The baptismal font of the original medieval [Norman?] church has disappeared. The present font is described and illustrated in Jackson & Britton (1843): "A new font, in Painswick stone, was made at the time, from Mr. Pinch's design" [NB: the rebuilding of this church took place in 1805 and in 1836, Mr. J. Pinch being the architect of the latter project and responsible also for the design of the new font]. The early-19th century font consists of an octagonal basin with deeply-carved panels decorated with a floral motif inscribed in a pointed quatrefoil; graded underbowl chamfer; raised on a slender octagonal pedestal with decorated panels, a moulded lower base and a tiny octagonal plinth. Jackson & Britton (ibid.) show an octagonal pyramidal coveron their illustration, but the present cover is flat, with metal decoration and ring handle.
