Font Notes:
The Victoria County History (Wiltshire, vol. 12, 1983) notes: "Architectural evidence indicates that there was a church at East Kennett in the 12th century [...] Christ Church stands on the site of an earlier church which contained 12th- and 13thcentury stonework, walled in during renovations in the 15th century [...] The church was rebuilt in 1863 by Gane & Co. of Trowbridge." [NB: there is no mention of a font, which probably means there was no information on the old font at the time. We have no information on the old font from that church either]. The present font at Christ Church dates probably from the 1863 renovation of the church; it consists of an octagonal basin with quatrefoilds panels with floral motifs inscribed; the underbowl chamfer is graded; it is raised on a plain octagonal pedestal and an octagonal plinth. The font cover consists of an octagonal platform on which are metal scrolled ribs; also modern.
