Pelate, "domestic chaplain to the Coleraine family, who then resided at the Castle" [i.e., Longford Castle]. The reference to the text is gven thus: "Within the doores in a Nich stands a gilded font carved in the figure of an Angell holding a Baskett (wherein is a Bason). On the edg of the Baskett is cut in Greek capitals the sentence which begirt many of the primitive Baptisteries: NIΨON ANOMHMA MH MONAN OΨIN. In tge other hand is a fish held by the mysterious character of our Lord's name: IXΘYΣ. On the angel's girdle are places of scripture and under his feet the 4 winds". Buck (ibid.) suggests that "the Longford Castle font, being gilded, was probably of wood", and also notes that the font may have disappeared by 1717.
