Harrison (1920) reports a modern font in this "possibly Saxon, or at least early Norman" church. The Victoria County History (Sussex, vol. 7, 1940) notes: "The church of St. Mary Magdalene has a nave and chancel of about 1100 [...] The north aisle, with the nave-arcade of three bays, was added in 1853 [...] The font is modern" [NB: the font is located near the second pillar of the arcade that separates the new north aisle from the older nave, and is therefore probably dated from that renovation, in 1853]. The on-line Church Guide [http://home.st.net.au/~dunn/bolney.htm] [accessed 14 December 2008] notes: "The font was installed in 1850 and replaced a 12th century font of Sussex marble which has regrettably disappeared". [NB: we have no information on the present whereabouts of the medieval font].
