Font Notes:
There are two entries for Aldsworth [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP1510/aldsworth/] [accessed 19 December 2018] neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Gloucester, vol. 7, 1981) notes: "There was a chapel at Aldsworth c. 1184, [...] apparently one of the dependent chapels of Bibury church [...] church of ST. BARTHOLOMEW, named before 1784 [...] but sometimes called St. Peter's from 1745"; the VCH entry mentions no font so, presumably, the font here belongs to the mid-19th century restoration of this church. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SP1539009976] notes: "Anglican parish church. Late C12 and C15, restored 1842-3 and c1877 [...] Regency Gothick font at south-west corner of nave". Baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin decorated with a protruding upper rim, the sides each with a pointed quatrefoil inscribed in a square panel; moulded underbowl chamfer; on an octagonal stem with trefoiled niches, and a moulded octagonal lower base. Minuscule kneeling stone. [NB: the church has a Norman portal, but we have no information on the earlier font(s) of this church]
