Church Notes: foundation of monastery may date back to 922 AD; documented 1171/ 1176 as Premonstratensian;
Baptismal font consisting of a cylindrical basin raised on a circular pedestal base; it rests directly on the ground, without a plinth. There is damage to the upper rim consistent with the position of the cover fastenings. The font is now [December 2008] disused and the church itself appears to be used as a pigeon coop and pen for other animals [source: e-mail from Mikel Unanue after a recent visit]. There is very good overview of the church in Antonio García Omedes' 'LA GUÍA DIGITAL DEL ARTE ROMÁNICO' [http://www.arquivoltas.com/8-palencia/02-Ribas00.htm] [accessed 9 December 2008], as well as in the entry in the Enciclopedia del románico [www.romanicodigital.com].
