Font Notes:
No individual entry found for Randwick in the Domesday survey. Fennemore (1893) writes: "Randwick Church is mentioned in a document, in the registry of the See of Worcester (to which Gloucester formerly belonged), as early as 1348, being the twenty-second year of the reign of Edward III., as then existing with its churchyard [...] It is, however, considerably older than this, perhaps by two or three centuries. It is dedicated to St. John, and is built in the Perpendicular, or Early English, and Tudor Styles. In 1865 the Church was restored and repewed". The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Gloucester, vol. 10, 1972) notes: "The church at Randwick was first mentioned as one of the chapels belonging to Standish church in the early 13th century. [...] The tower is of three stages with battlements and has windows of the 14th century. The north wall of the nave had a large 15th- or early-16th-century window which was enlarged in 1771 [...] In 1823 the church was enlarged, and in 1825 the chancel was rebuilt [...] The church was restored in the mid 1860s". There is no mention of a font in either of these two sources. Noted in Verey & Brooks (1999-2002): "Font. C19, octagonal, in C14 style, very pretty." This font is probably from the 1823 or the 1865 renovation of the earlier church; we have no information on the original font of this church].
