There is an try for Newington [Bagpath] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/ST8194/newington-bagpath/] [accessed 3 May 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. There is no mention of a font in this church in The Ecclesiologist report (vol. 17 / XX, 1859: 295) on the church restoration by S.S. Teulon. A font here is noted in Verey & Brooks (1999-2002) as a church "probably C12 in origin" partly renovated by S.S. Teulon in 1858-1859. At that time the church was described by these authors (ibid.) as "abandoned, boarded up and derelict". The entry for this church in English Heritage [Listing NGR: ST8157494825] reports: "church, unused and boarded up at time of survey (March 1986). Norman foundation, with some surviving C15 work, and with chancel rebuilt by S.S. Teulon in 1858" [no font mentioned]. A photograph of this church [www.geograph.org.uk/photo/68351] [accessed 2 December 2008] taken by ChurchCrawler in April 2002 is captioned: "sold by the Gloucester diocese and still awaiting conversion by its new owners at the point of submission of this picture". A later photograph by Philip Halling in April 2012 [www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2915125] [accessed 3 May 2015] shows little change: "The sad sight of the abandoned and disused St Bartholomew's church at Newington Bagpath. The church has been sold and awaits redevelopment." John Wilkes [www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~engcots/NewingtonBagpathPhotos.html] [accessed 3 May 2015] reported the interior of the church gutted at the time of his visit [17 September 2003]. A record in the Gloucestershire Archives: Online Catalogue [ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/] [accessed 3 May 2015] [FindingRef GDR/F1/1/1976/865 -- Date: 1976] reports the "Removal of pulpit [from the Church of the Holy Trinity at Badgeworth] and replacement with that from Newington Bagpath church", showing that the interior of St. Nartholomew's was being relocated. John Wilkes' entry for the Church of St. John the Baptist at Kingscote in The Gloucestershire Photo Library [www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~engcots/KingscotePhotos.html] [accessed 3 May 2015] reports: "The altar table was by Teulon but brought from the Newington Bagpath church"; what, then, happened to the Newington Bagpath font?
