Noted in Buck (1951) as a font "similar to that of Stockton, but the sides taper downwards instead of being vertical". The Victoria County History (Wiltshire, vol. 14, 1991) notes: "Malmesbury abbey had a chapel at Norton in 1151. [...] In 1222 the abbey was licensed to appropriate it on condition that a vicarage was ordained, [...] and the church was being served by a vicar in 1283. [...] The sizes of the chancel and the nave, both small, are little changed from the 12th century, and there is a later 12th-century font in the church." The British Listed buildings entry for this church [www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-318052-church-of-all-saints-norton] [accessed 15 February 2012] reports: "Nave has early C13 font: cylindrical pillar with trumpet capital frieze below circular bowl."
