Classed in Buck (1950) as one of a group of "Middle Norman circular Fonts, c. 1100-1150" in Wiltshire: "A small bowl with chevron around the top of the sides, and scallops below on vertical cones; the lower portion of the font is modern, the stem of bulbous shape." The Victoria County History (Wiltshire, vol. 7, 1953) notes: "A chapel existed at Holt early in the 12th century [...] The church of Holt is again mentioned in 1288–9. [...]The font dates from the 12th century." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: ST8606561603] notes; "Anglican parish church. C15 tower, rest rebuilt 1891 [...] C12 cylindrical stone font bowl with scallops and chevrons, reset on vase pedestal."
