Site Location: Burgos, Castilla y León, Spain, Europe
Directions to Site: Located off (W) the CL-629, in the Merindad de Sotoscueva, NW of Torme, 10-11 km N of Villarcayo
Ecclesiastic Region: Diócesis de Burgos
Font Notes:
Baptismal font consisting of a roughly hemispheric basin raised on a squat round base; the basin is plain but for a moulding at the upper rim, where damage has resulted from the removal of one of the iron staples of the old cover (at least one other staple is still in the rim and is holding an old wooden cover, plain and flat); the basin underbowl incorporates a stump that constitutes about half of the stem, the other half being part of the separate block of the base; the lower end of that, half-built into the floor ends in an irregular shape dn may have been a re-used piece from elsewhere. The font appears semi-abandoned, obviously no longer in use. The entry for this church in the Enciclopedia del románico [https://www.romanicodigital.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/files/burgos_BUTRERA.pdf] [accessed 20 August 2025] does not mention a font of stoup in it. [cf. Index entry for Butrera No. 2 for a stoup in this church]
