Font Notes:
There are two entries [one is multi-place] for Carlton [Miniott] [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SE3981/carlton-miniott/] [accessed 6 December 2019] neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Glynne's 19 April 1869 visit to this church (in Butler, 2007) reports: "The font has a plain octagonal bowl". The entry for the parish of Thirsk in the Victoria County History (York North Riding, vol. 2, 1923) informs : "The church of St. Lawrence at Carlton Miniott, which was rebuilt in 1896, replaces an older building." The C.H. Fowler 1896 groundplan of the church [http://www.churchplansonline.org/show_full_image.asp?resource_id=09854.tif] [accessed 29 October 2008] shows a font located just inside the south entranceway, to the right, but we have no information on whether the old font was retained or replaced by a new one at the time of the rebuilding.
