Noted in Verey & Brooks (1999-2002): "Font. Perp[endicular] style, on a panelled stem, though the octagonal bowl is dated 1661." Noted and illustrated in the Dumbleton Village web pages [http://www.dumbletonvillage.co.uk/Buildings/StPetersChurch/Interior/tabid/81/Default.aspx] [accessed 18 October 2008]: "The font is in the style of the 14th century but an inscription shows that it was made in 1661 when Richard Ingles and Charles Agge were churchwardens." [NB: it should be noted here that some earlier fonts acquired new inscriptions in the Restoration period; these inscriptions indicated the date in which the font was re-instated in the church, from which it may have been withdrawn, ejected, etc., either during the reign of Henry VIII or during the Commonwealth. This font is neither typical of the 17th century, nor of the 14th century; if it were of the earlier period, the quatrefoiled panels on the basin sides might have been re-carved at a later date; the base could very well be 14th-century -- the original church dates from Norman times, but we have no information of the font of that period]
