No individual entry for this Hornby found in the Domesday survey. An object resembling a baptismal font and consisting of a rather shallow circular basin raised on an octagonal (?) pedestal base and an octagonal lower base or plinth. Externally it has the appearance of an earlier font with the upper part of the basin trimmed off, a common enough occurrence in cases in which the upper rim has been badly damaged], but the inner well is totally atypical, so one must conclude that it is modern and, most likely, meant to serve as a holy-water stoup near the entrance of a large church. It is not mentioned in Pevsner. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SE2224393752] notes: "Church. c1080, C12, c1330, c1410, late C15, C16, 1877. Work of c1410 by Richard Mason of Newton for John Conyers of Hornby; 1877 work by J L Pearson [...] C12 oval font on circular stem" at the east end of the south aisle".
